Contact lenses: the essentials in 30 seconds

  • Soft, rigid, toric or scleral: the type of lens is chosen according to your cornea and how you use it.
  • Irregular cornea and keratoconus: rigid lenses correct what glasses cannot.
  • Made-to-measure fitting at the practice, guided by corneal topography, with trials and tolerance checks.
  • We no longer offer orthokeratology (overnight lenses). To slow a child's myopia: myopia-control spectacle lenses and contact lenses, low-dose atropine.

Fitting, step by step

1 · Assessment
Full examination and corneal topography on the practice's diagnostic equipment: the precise map of your cornea is used to make made-to-measure lenses.
2 · The first nights
Vision improves from the first nights and stabilises after 1 to 2 weeks of regular wear. A check is carried out the morning after the first night.
3 · Hygiene, non-negotiable
Hand washing, daily lens care, and respecting the replacement schedule: this is the key to the safety of overnight wear.
4 · Regular follow-up
Scheduled checks of the cornea and vision, and in children, measurement of myopia progression at each visit.

Fitting of all lenses

Beyond ortho-K, the practice fits all types of contact lenses: daily or monthly soft lenses, toric (astigmatism), multifocal (presbyopia) and rigid gas-permeable lenses.

Thanks to corneal topography, we also fit complex cases: irregular corneas, keratoconus, strong prescriptions or previous failed fittings.

Frequently asked questions

Contact lenses: your questions

Answers from Dr Yaïr Chetrit and Dr Mayer Srour, ophthalmologists in Noisy-le-Grand.

Do you fit contact lenses at the practice?

Yes. Fitting takes place at the Noisy-le-Grand practice: measurement of the cornea, choice of material and geometry, trials, training in insertion and removal, then a tolerance check. Soft, rigid gas-permeable, toric and scleral lenses.

Do you offer orthokeratology (overnight lenses)?

No, we no longer offer orthokeratology. To slow a child's myopia, we use myopia-control spectacle lenses, soft myopia-control contact lenses and low-dose atropine, with regular monitoring of progression.

Do you fit difficult corneas, such as keratoconus?

Yes. This is one of the main indications: rigid, hybrid or scleral lenses can correct irregular astigmatism that glasses cannot. Fitting relies on the corneal topography of the practice's diagnostic equipment.

How many appointments are needed for a fitting?

Generally one assessment and trial appointment, then a later check to verify tolerance, visual acuity and the condition of the cornea. Additional trials are sometimes needed with an irregular cornea.

My child is myopic: what can be done to slow progression?

Several methods have proven effective: myopia-control spectacle lenses, soft myopia-control contact lenses and low-dose atropine eye drops, combined with time spent outdoors and limiting screens. The choice is discussed during a paediatric ophthalmology consultation.

Can I wear lenses if I have dry eyes?

Often yes, provided the material, diameter and wearing time are adapted and the dryness is treated at the same time. An ocular surface assessment is carried out before fitting.

Is lens fitting covered?

The consultation is an ophthalmology consultation, covered under the usual conditions. Reimbursement of the lenses themselves depends on the visual problem and your supplementary private insurance (mutuelle); details are explained during the consultation.

Lenses or refractive surgery?

Lenses correct vision without surgery but require daily care. Laser refractive surgery removes dependence on glasses and lenses, after a safety assessment. Both options are discussed during a consultation.
